Every once in a while, I hear somebody claim that they can control their dreams, or that they've been able to do it before. Because experience is so hard to argue with, I've always just sort of taken them at their word and thought, "that's really interesting, I wonder what it would be like". Last night, however, I experienced it for myself. The amazing thing is, the experience didn't reinforce the stories I'd heard, it simply begged the question whether control within dreams is merely an illusion.

Warning: This post contains spoilers for the ending of Source Code. Since it’s release, I’ve listen to several different reviews of Source Code. Positive or negative, most reviewers seem to fixate on a specific aspect of the films’ ending. In the climactic scene Colleen Goodwin sends Colter Stevens back through the Source Code one last time, severs Stevens connection with the machine, and allows him to live out the rest of his life as Sean Fentress in the world in which he stops the bomb from ever exploding. In the last 2 minutes of the film, we then discover that in every trip Stevens took, an alternate reality was actually being created. What I’ve found is that most reviewers seem to share the common belief that Colter Stevens is killing Sean Fentress by taking his place in this alternate reality. The film follows Norris as he tries to thwart the organization and write his own path through the world. Given the subject matter of free will vs determinism, it’s easy to understand why viewers might interpret The Bureau (and it’s Chairman) as representing God within the context of the film.
